Age and years riding
32 as on July 7th Riding for 23 years
What is Animal, and how did it start?
It is a company that puts out the best parts possible and puts out the best riding to promote those products with no bullshit. It started during an FBM trip with Crandall, Tag, Scerbo and Dossantos. We had just gotten arrested and spent the weekend in jail for destruction of property for me and Tag grinding this marble stair ledge. We went camping that night and in a moment of extreme clarity I realized that it had to be done. We had something different going in the NYC area and it had to be represented. So many guys over here were doing so much new stuff that it had to be put out there. Whiteboy had an idea for the best pegs and that was our first product.
What are some of your influences outside of riding?
My girlfriend Ali, my family, pets, the business, cars, cars and more cars
How did you become affiliated with FBM?
I had met Tag way back at Newburg skatepark when he came through with Rob Kucharek from American Icon probably in like 93. I saw him from time to time, and then went on some trips with him. I am not totally sure, but I think it was either Crandall or Tag that asked me to be on the team after a contest at Chenga.
How long?
I think that was probably around 97, but my memory is a bit foggy.
Where have you traveled to in the past year?
Shit, I don't travel much. I am a workaholic. We go on day trips here or there. Me, Butcher, Gower, and Hamilton went to Toronto the end of last summer to ride street and I judged this Ten Pack contest. Miron sent me to Singapore to judge the metro jam a couple of months ago. That was the best and the only place I have ever been out of North America besides France. I was only there for like 3 or 4 days though. It is a great place. I mostly just ride in New Jersey and New York City.
Frame you are currently riding
FBM Tagmobile the Autopilot
How did you start Riding?
I got this 80 Rampar Banana seat bike when I was 5. I would just jump curbs and stuff like that. I rode it all the time and though it was the best bike ever. It was so much faster and had knobby tires unlike my 12" stingray I had before that. Then my friend Kevin Kelly got an 83 Mongoose California when we were in 3rd grade. After riding that, I needed to get rid of the banana seat and get some BMX bars. I went with my dad to the bike shop to start to hook up the rampage. Then I saw an 84 Hutch Pro Raider on the shelf. It was so dope. My dad said he would get it for me instead of putting money into the Rampar. At first I told him no, since it was $249 and I didn't want him to spend that much money. We left the shop and I thought about it for a week or so. I couldn't get it out of my mind and the next week we went back and got it. From that moment it was on.
Who do you ride with?
I mostly ride with Osso my warehouse manager and Animal team member. We usually work till the same time and he is down to ride anything. Most people hate to ride with me, since I will session stuff that nobody else wants to ride. Osso doesn't give a shit and we ride everything and anything in our path. I ride with everyone on the team as much as I can. Vinnie Sammon and Scerbo both live real close to me now also, so that works out well sometimes. Everyone that works at Animal rides, so there is always someone to ride with. I try to ride with Lugo as much as I can also, since we have been riding together forever.
Interview from June 4th, 2007
Top 5 current favorite riders?
I gotta say they are the 13 guys on the team. I can't narrow it down to 5.
Top 5 all time favorite riders?
I gotta say the same 13 guys.
What music are you into lately?
I listen to the same rap music from the 80s and 90s. That is what I have always listened to. I like all kinds of stuff from the 80s and 90s like punk and hardcore also, but rap is where my heart is at.
Where do you ride? What are some of your favorite spots?
I try to just keep exploring and riding new stuff all the time. I love searchin for spots and finding different old banks and whatnot. New Jersey is all industrial parks and other urban areas. Me and Osso were just riding this old World War 2 army base that manufactured planes and stuff. We rode this concrete bank that was probably from the 40's. I love shit like that. Everything is different and not exactly like anything else in the world. There is nothing better then finding new spots.
Favorite Videos?
Probably all the old vids that Bob and Jeff Z. made like Stairs and Grizzle. I love all the Homeless vids, Standard vids, Dirt Bros vids; I love the old Pipeline footage in Joe Kid on a stingray. Old skate vids are great also like the Bones Brigades, Santa Cruz vids, that kind of stuff.
What tricks do you like doing most?
Any kinds of grinds, stalls, or slides.
What gets you stoked?
Just a good session is plenty. Driving a Dodge, Mercedes or Volkswagen also gets me stoked.
Worst Injury?
Probably my big leg hematoma when I fractured it filming for Nowhere Fast, just since they almost amputated it.
Most recent injury?
I have been dealing with a broken wrist for the past couple of years. It sucks, since they say that operating might only make it worse, but sometimes it has crazy nerve damage that kills and I can't even pick up a damn pen. When the nerve damage isn't bothering me too bad I can ride fine, I just try to stay away from big drops or anything too high. I am a big fan of bank to curbs.
What kind of riding do you enjoy most?
I’ll ride anything, but mostly street.
What does FBM mean to you?
Super high quality bikes, partying, Spooky welding away down the basement, Erbles keeping shit straight, Crandall, Tag, good times.
