While trying to cover the daunting task of coming up with new frame graphics for the 06 line, i’ve managed to come up with these gems. It looks like something i drew amidst my short attention span in 9th grade global studies. Great. I did come across this picture of Phil though, from a while back at a Backyard jam. Phil’s bike , the PW Moto, will have some nice new features, for the new season. Phil has been busy with Super Rat Machine Works in Kansas City where he has been making Prototype parts for Vegas. Coffee, Cigarettes, a Machine Shop in a cave, and a Professional Wrestlers Mustache, thats Phil….

Scott Towne, thanks for the shoes, and the the pics of Dane”buck ass” Wild from Michigan. Dane is an Albes rider getting some help from FBM, and his name alone should get him an award, he also apes it hard. Random FBM News:
The master of 80’s metal John Corts caved in to local brakeless peer pressure and now shreds the course sin frenos. Disco Dave Harrison finally built himself a new frame and has been spotted riding again. He is also considering getting another dog to keep Curtis company. Jeff Harrington tore something in his rib cage when he did a no hander on the mini ramp at ECT and got his arm stuck on a pipe in the ceiling. For those of you not familiar with the mini ramp at ECT, it’s real mellow, and most humans can’t get anywhere near that pipe. So I guess that makes Jeff not quite human. We just received a few heaters courtesy of the landlord and Spaceship engineer Jim Bagg has begun testing one of the new units. Jim has found that, while they don’t do much to heat a huge machine shop, they do a real nice job of roasting hot dogs. Jim used his Yankee ingenuity, some welding rod, and one of the new heaters to make this handy hot dog rotisserie unit. So while it may be cold, at least we have tasty hot dogs to warm our bellies. It’s times like these that bring to mind the immortal words of Kelly Baker, “I love hot dogs – the good ones!!!”

In actual product news we are busy shipping the limited edition translucent blue PW-Motos.Click Here to see more photos. If you would like to get your hands on one, call up your local shop or mail order and have them give Last Call a shout – 607-729-2803. The new blue PW’s are going fast, and we should have limited edition blood red capones in in a few days also. Check back for pictures of the Capone when we get them.

Leif is also on a media blitz right now, and has a hang 5 how to in the new Ride, following an awesome interview deal in Dig, and a Bio in the last Props. Holla. Leif can also be spotted riding and filming with Kevin Jones when the weather is good, and drinking coffee very fast.

The Big news though, is this; JEFF HARRINGTON CUT HIS HAIR! After over 10 years of wild haircutness, Jeff finally turned in his chips on trying to have the shittiest haircut in BMX. Losey is gonna be bummed. For a sticker of Jeff’s hair, and a clump of it, send $10 to FBM ATTN. “a clump of Jeff’s hair and a sticker”.

Well it’s Friday afternoon and about a 1/4 of the Road Fools 13 crew, consisting of Steve Crandall, Stew Johnson, Derrick Nelson, Rob Dolecki, and of course Merle the squirrel (Yep these fools really are crazy!) just set sail.

Before leaving Admiral c_diddy ran through the preflight checklist of Road Fools essentials… 1 ambulance, check! 1 pink stuffed bunny, check! 1 squirrel named Merle, check!, 1 55 gallon drum of bio diesel, check! Everything seemed in order (huh?) so they loaded up and shoved off.

This is no doubt going to be one of the most bizarre Road Fools to date. The adventure officially starts Tuesday in Denver. Unfortunately we’ll all have to wait until this thing comes out to see what goes down, but check the news here as I’m sure that c_diddy will share some of the adventures along the way.

In other news I just posted a close up inspection of Shawn Arata’s new bike. Click the link to check it out. The bike looks awesome and should be available sometime late summer. Shawn’s going to ride it for a while to make sure everything is ok, and then we’ll go into production.

Speaking of new frames, the Equilibrium, Leif’s signature flatland frame, should be going into production in a few weeks. Click the link to see that frame.

I think that’s about all the news for now. It’s 5:00pm Friday, time to go ride.

After a long week prior to the tradeshow/contest, and a party hard weekend, things at FBM are getting back to normal, even with 4 new prototypes being tested for production. look for Lief Valins flat Frame out first. Its called the Equilibrium, and should be started shortly. In other news, Derrick Girard has been staying in Ithaca and painting houses while dialing in his I-pod, and Gilly got a job consulting the Bethlehem Area Development Committee in Economics. The Subdivision Trade show also went down this weekend, and it went real well. It was a good opportunity for everyone in the industry to get together, talk, plan, and meet with shops and the public. We’ll post more from the trade show in a day or two. Right now it’s time to ride some trails.

The trade show has been going on for two days with a good percentage of the BMX Industry in attendance. One of the most heated debates of the weekend so far is over the Fly Bikes “Spanish BB” and a new similar prototype BB that we have put on a few new prototype bikes.

You can see the prototype FBM BB here on Shawn Arata’s new prototype signature frame. Both BB’s work the same and are machined so that the bearings press straight into the BB, thus doing away with BB cups. The difference is that the FBM is built around a standard Profile bearing, while the Spainsh BB uses a new and slightly smaller bearing.

Industry leaders met yesterday in order to discuss the merits of each in an attempt to come up with an agreed upon standard so that frames and parts will be easily interchangeable.

No matter which BB everyone decides to go with, Shawn is going to be stoked on his new frame either way. After building it up he immediately fell in love with it, claiming that it has more “pop” than his old frame. Check back after the weekend for full specs and to see how the new frame performs over the weekend.

Have a good weekend.

What you can now buy online are “blem” products, some hard to find items like the FBM zippo and flask, and things like stickers. We will also be adding short run “web exclusive” items like rider t_shirts in the near future.

What is a “blem”?A blem is any superficial defect which renders a product unsellable to our retail dealers. Things like small dents, paint scratches, scuffs, etc. constitute blemishes. We will not sell any parts with structural defects that would make them weak or unsafe.

Jeff will be in charge of online orders, and boy he can’t wait to start mailing out those packages, so go buy something and give Jeff more work.

In other news, Internal headset Livewires are out, with seatstay mounts, and a couple with euro BB’s as well, they are HOT. Outsider 3/4 sleeve shirts are out now too, and looking good, more great graphic design via the Hallman.
Look for more news tonight hombres….

Soup Gang applications have been pouring in, with new ones this week from Chris Stauffer, Josh Stricker, Salbo, and the chef From the muppets. Tonights specialty is vegan chili alacrandall. Look for Kerry Sayre and some of the FBM crew at the section 8 contest this weekend, as long as there are no automobile problems, usually the Last Call van breaks down every other trip, so it should be cool this time.

FBM UPDATE

Hi to everyone with their noses in the Internet. There has been some interesting things happening here at FBM and I thought I would share.

First of all I’ll get some product news out of the way. We’ve got a redesign of the chanticleer bar end coming back from the lab today. The new bar end features a rooster, and they are guaranteed to make your bike roll with increased confidence and head strong pride.

Meanwhile back in the shop a batch of Live Wire’s with internal head tubes is currently on the welding table. That’s Big Dave applying the weld.

We’ve also got a bunch of sprockets coming in today. “Stryper” who makes the sprockets is personally delivering the sprockets and bar ends, and they’re even taking us out to lunch. What a deal!

For a long time I’ve wanted to have a nice photo studio set up for taking product type photos, and I’ve decided to go for it and build one myself. So I cleaned out a section of the bathroom, gathered wood from an abandoned building nearby, and began construction on “Outhouse Studios”.

While moving lockers that were in the bathroom I unearthed some intriguing artifacts.

exhibit #1: a Piels Light Beer Can. Can you remember a time when you had to open beer can’s with a can opener? I can’t. We’ve sent the can to the lab for radiocarbon dating and are currently awaiting results. We believe it may be the artifact of a previously unknown Central, NY hominid we’re calling Homo Sissius.

exhibit#2: a schematic drawing of a fighter jet. What was going on in this building before we got here? Was it a top secret military instalation? Was someone smuggling military secrets to Cuba through this very building? Speculations abound but so far no connection can be made between this drawing and the existence of a tv dating show about midgets.

exhibit#3: “A Loving Step Brother” Perhaps the most disturbing find of all!! Light beer, fighter jets, and soft porn??? What is the connection? It just doesn’t add up. Even more disturbing, the book seems to have misteriously disappeared. And I was worried about the people that used to work here, now it seems that someone amongst us has a soft spot for cheap dime store porn!!! So far everyone denies any knowledge of it’s disappearance. Stay tuned to see if the culprit surfaces.

That’s all for now. Back to work and suspicious wonderings.

Afterwards we narrowly escaped sniper fire on 270, on the way to Louisville, and then Arkansas. The whole premise for the trip, was to drive 1200 miles to Little Rock on Friday the 13th, ride the park, and meet up with Jud Ferguson, and brian, get 42 beers, and drive north to Conway, and watch Lucero play, and get loaded. The catch is that Conway is in a dry county (no booze). It kicked ass, i lost my keys, and ended up in some unmentionable situations, and so on. Next Stop Memphis, where we checked out the skatepark, and met Derek T. Jones, and his crew, who were working on some new ramps and had an awesome spot. We picked up a hitchhiker there (a guy named Lewis, who was headed to Nashville), and the heater core blew out, which caused problems, and we had to stop using the heat. Awesome party. we Lost all the coolant in the engine as well, which was almost a really bad scene, but fuck it, we had lewis, and he was crazy as shit.
We arrived at the 6th ave Skatepark, just in time for bible study. Joel, who worked there was super cool , and he let us ride, we also met up with Leland and mike tag. The Following day, we drove back to NY, with no heat, and had to scrape ice off the windows (inside the car), and that sucked, as did getting pulled over in Salamnca. Holy. More action to come….

Not too much else going on, I’m retarded, it’s raining, and like the old saying goes “when it rains it pours”, so buckle in for a nice ride my friends. Fisher is wierd too check out the pic of him.

It was a blast, and Catfish is an amazing orator. The Nyquist Bros. were in the house, and still rode amazing even theough Catfish had them pissing themselves during thier runs. Thanks to Cory from stateline for the Beer and Fireworks, and the fun ramps, and to all the locals, who were cool as hell. Corrigan is currently suffering from jetlag, and is now back home roaming the street of Austin, after a jaunt to England, and Spain. Corrigan will fart. Ithaca bids farewell to our good friend Mike Tag tonight, as he leaves for new ventures, and residence in Loiusville, to live with Leland and work on Shitluck more. Good luck Mike, we hope you don’t stay gone too long. He is still the FBM Team Manager, And still kicking ass on the Nighttrain, so keep an eye on the pool tables, especially if there are quarters on it.

The Outsider represents a combination of American Quality and affordability. By utilizing simplified manufacturing processes and fewer finishing refinements we are able to deliver a quality American made frame for a suggested retail price of $280.00.

Fewer finishing refinements means that we forgo things like end caps on the tubes and use simple plate gussets instead of tube gussets which are more time consuming and harder to weld. These are the sort of things that do not do much structurally, they just make the frame look prettier. The frames are still built in house at the FBM Machine Shop, and they still kick ass.

As soon as we get the production models back from paint we will add the frame to the products page. Until then, happy trick or treating.

The forks are now available, and feature.058 wall fork legs, 3/16″ heat treated dropouts (3/8 only), a machined 1 piece steer tube, and weigh in at just 2.8 pounds. The frame pictured is Kerry Sayre’s Nighttrain he’s testing out, Jeff Harrington, is trying out an Old Boy, and Ron Kimler has been riding a Livewire for some time now, all with seat stay mounts amd Euro BB’s, in the near future look for these frames to be available with these options as well, as with the regular brake mount/ BB features. The Outsider Frames are being put together as we speak, and will have seat stay mounts, as well as euro BB’s. The first batch will only be available in american BB though. Hope that will do for news right now. My eyes are bleeding from looking at a computer screen for too long.

It snowed on the way to work today, and i hung out with Rob Dolecki, who was up to get a new bike, his got stolen. I heard George Dossantos stole it. No I didn’t, but he quit 2-Hip, and then his bike got stolen too. George, gimme a call fucker. More news later, keep posted.

This weekend is a comp at the skatepark of tampa, and Jeff and Kerry will be there representing. Next weekend is the backyard jam, and FBM will be in effect, look for Fisher, Mike Tag, Shawn Arata, the Maniac, and Corrigan all at the comp. It should be a banger.

Guess who the FBM pro is in the pic, and what year it is, and you win a chance to drink more beers than Kelly Baker.

Maybe some autumn trail sessions will go down, unfortunately, Kelly Baker, who is pictured above, won’t be riding for a while, he has to go in for surgery on his spine for a ruptured disc. This isn’t a walk in the park either, and its the second time this year he’s gotten hurt real bad. Kelly turns 37 next month, and is still an ass kicker, so please send get well and birthday wishes to FBM, and i’ll pass them along, he’s gonna need it, since he’ll be laid up for about 6 weeks in bed. If you don’t know who kelly is, he’s the guy at the diner booth you might eat with some day, and when you are telling everyone some crazy story, he’ll have the squeezable ketchup and mustard bottles underneath the table, totally soaking your feet and legs. Kelly Rules.
